Grosse Burgdorfer Brocante
The Grosse Burgdorfer Brocante is an indoor brocante of professional dealers in the Markthalle Burgdorf, held once a year in autumn, from Friday to Sunday. Around 80 dealers from all over Switzerland bring small antiques, furniture, silver, jewellery and watches, glass, porcelain and enamel, prints, lamps, postcards and curiosities. In spring, the same organiser runs the Frühlings-Sammler-Börse in the Markthalle.
There is no early dealers' day: professionals get in during the public opening hours like everyone else, and new goods or copies have to be labelled as such. The Markthalle on the Sägegasse, opened in 1932 to plans by Ernst Bützberger, is the most striking Neues Bauen building in the region and is now listed. From Burgdorf station, a quarter of an hour from Bern, the bus stops at Burgdorf Hallenbad, right outside the hall. With time to spare, the visit combines well with the old town and the castle above the Emme.
