About this market

The Flohmarkt Biel/Bienne is organised by the Marktpolizei of the city of Biel and takes place from April to October on about two Saturdays a month, either on the Esplanade by the Kongresshaus or in the historic old town. The two venues offer different settings for a traditional flea market with exclusively used goods.

The range mainly includes secondhand clothing, shoes, children's items, toys, books, crockery and used household goods. Private vendors are in the foreground, alongside occasional older items and individual vintage pieces. Antiques and specialised collector's items are not a particular focus.

The editions in the old town are spread across the historic lanes and squares with their old house facades and cafés. Especially the slightly elevated location and the winding streets give this venue its own character. On the Esplanade, by contrast, the market takes place in a more open, urban setting.

The flea market is aimed mainly at visitors looking for a mixed secondhand offering. Anyone particularly interested in classic antiques or high-quality vintage collector's items will find isolated finds here rather than a specialised range.

The market alternates between the Esplanade and the old town, and the old town gets its turn less often. On Saturday it was its turn, and we stood among the stalls at seven, on a morning that was surprisingly cool after the hot weeks.
