About this market

Old wooden skis and Davos sledges greet you outside the Markthalle School in Sargans, and inside it continues in the same way. Once a year, on a Saturday and Sunday at the end of October, the large hall on St. Gallerstrasse becomes a meeting point for lovers of antiques, rarities and unusual collector's items.

The range is varied, with a clear focus on older objects: farmhouse antiques, old household items, ceramics and porcelain stand alongside tin toys, model cars, postcards, records and curiosities. During our visit, an enamel sign over 120 years old caught our eye, advertising a Viennese fig coffee company. It suits this border region close to Austria and Liechtenstein, where you can also hear Austrian dialect between the stalls.

Organiser Heinz Küng limits the market to a maximum of 75 stalls and sets clear rules: clothing, shoes and mass-produced new goods are excluded. The stalls are carefully arranged, the hall is well attended, the mood lively and pleasant. If you're mainly looking for secondhand fashion or mid-century design, this is less the place for you, but if you love genuine antiques and historical collector's items, all the more so.

In front of the hall there's a grill station with sausages, inside there are plenty of seats, warm food, coffee and cake. A barley soup goes well with an autumn day at the market, and since the hall is enclosed and heatable, the trip is worthwhile even in the rain.

Behind the market hall there are many free parking spaces, and the School bus stop is right by the hall. An authentic market with a rural character, for anyone who takes pleasure in truly old things.
