About this market

The Brocante de Saignelégier is one of the traditional antiques and collectors' markets in the Swiss Jura. Since 1976 it has taken place in the Halle du Marché-Concours in Saignelégier, a venue closely linked to horse breeding and the history of the Franches-Montagnes. It emerged from the enthusiasm of local collectors who came together to trade and share their knowledge. It takes place annually on a weekend in September, from Friday afternoon to Sunday. The classic brocante is complemented by the Salon Design & Vintage.

Around 70 exhibitors present antiques, furniture, porcelain, ceramics, glassware, art, decorative objects and collectors' items from various eras. Vintage furniture and 20th century design expand the traditional antiques offering. The focus is on selected dealer goods rather than ordinary house clearances or flea market items.

The exhibition areas are spread across different parts of the Halle du Marché-Concours, including the historic hall sections shaped by the horse tradition. Carefully arranged stands, larger pieces of furniture and extensive collectors' ranges characterise the appearance of the event. Shortly after the opening on Friday, the brocante is already well attended.

Food stands and the immediate proximity to the town centre round off the offering. The brocante is aimed both at experienced collectors and at lovers of antiques, vintage furniture and design objects who are looking for a wide range of specialist offerings.

Fifty years, one hall

François Bouille opened his archive: press cuttings, posters and photographs from fifty years of brocante. On 10 and 11 September 1976 the Groupement franc-montagnard opened the first Jura brocante and antiques fair in the Halle du Marché-Concours. It returns there for the fiftieth time, for three days.

Horses on every poster, even in the name of the hall: in Saignelégier you know immediately where you are. On Friday afternoon the 50th Brocante opened in the Halle du Marché-Concours, and shortly after opening the hall was already full, with carefully arranged stalls, plenty of ceramics, the stables next door, vintage cars outside and a crêpes stand we visited twice right away.
